Odyssey Series

There are music universities all over the country where students can specialize in vocal and instrumental performance, and in 21st century Japan, there are surprisingly many opportunities to come into contact with Western classical music, from entertainment such as TV dramas, movies, and anime, to background music in commercial facilities.
However, if you take an interest and look closer, you will notice that these musics were born in Europe and America, where unique societies have been nurtured for hundreds of years, and that they are "difficult to grasp" and can be easily misunderstood or misinterpreted. Even if you look them up on the Internet or in books, you will find that terms related to knowledge systems other than music appear everywhere...

The more you learn about Western classical music, the more you realize there are many hidden "whys" in it. How can you take that extra step to learn about the social background in which famous pieces were born and the everyday thoughts of the composers, which cannot be seen just by reading sheet music or music books?

In the summer of 2020, when face-to-face contact had to be avoided, Music Dialogue launched the online course "Odyssey Series" with the desire to create an opportunity for learning.

Odyssey Series 2025
In the 2025 season, we will invite a Music Dialogue artist each time and hold the event in person, providing a place for participants, including speakers, to learn and explore together.

Only the first and second sessions of the series held in 2020 will be available to watch on demand (for a fee).
