Heiichiro Ohyama

He graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in the UK. After participating as a violist in the Marlboro Music Festival in 1972, he was invited to many international music festivals and performed with famous musicians such as Gidon Kremer, Radlupou, and Mischa Maisky. In 1973, he became an assistant professor at the University of California. In 1979, he was appointed principal viola of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra led by Giulini, and in 1987, he was appointed assistant conductor by Previn. He subsequently served as artistic director of the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, principal conductor of the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra, and musical advisor and principal conductor of the Osaka Symphony Orchestra. He has received the Fukuoka City Cultural Award and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award (Art Festival Excellence Award). He is currently music director of The Lobero Theatre Chamber Music Project (Santa Barbara, USA), artistic director of the CHANEL Pygmalion Days chamber music series, and artistic director of Music Dialogue.
