We are now able to introduce artist illustrations and profiles created by illustrator Akasaka Sumire on our website.
This is the illustration series that has been extremely well received when we have distributed some of it at event venues so far, with people looking at it closely with great interest.
What prompted me to ask Akasaka for illustrations?
When I was having a hard time explaining to people I was meeting for the first time what we do at Music Dialogue's public rehearsals, I met textile artist Sumire Akasaka. Akasaka showed me her notebooks, which she said she keeps as illustrations of her travels and other experiences. I was amazed by her extraordinary powers of observation, insight, and expression, and immediately asked her to illustrate the public rehearsals. Akasaka told me that she had "hardly listened to classical music," which gave me hope that she would be able to see it with a fresh perspective. Here is the resulting A4-sized, one-page illustration.
After this, we will be showing footage of DUO Project rehearsals and Discovery Series performances, and from 2024, we will be asking Oyama to continue providing illustrations of his journey as a performer, as well as illustrations of each MD artist.
For the artist profiles, Akasaka interviewed each artist one by one and created an illustration based on the inspiration he received. The work is packed with the artist's "past, present, and future." It's a fun illustrated profile that expands the individuality and world of each artist in one piece. Please enjoy it.

Sumire Akasaka
Graduated from Joshibi University of Art and Design with a major in crafts (dyeing), and won the Joshibi University of Art and Design Graduation Work Award in the same year.
After that, she studied at Joshibi University of Art and Design, majoring in fine arts and crafts (dyeing).
She received the Okubo Fukuko Award and Joshibi University of Art and Design Museum Encouragement Award for her graduation work.
Currently, she works as a textile designer, holding solo and group exhibitions mainly in Japan, while also working as an illustrator.
