[DUO Project 2023] 9/20 Coaching Report

2023.10.02

The DUO project started with auditions in March 2023 and has progressed steadily towards the main performance in November.

On September 9th, a coaching session was held with Haruko Ueda and artistic director Heichiro Oyama. As in the open rehearsal on August 20th, we focused on Ravel and Saint-Saëns.

During the actual performance, Ravel's Sonata will be performed by Mizukoshi and Ueda Haruko, but in the session on September 9th, coaching was provided for the combination of Mizukoshi (violin) and Shirase (piano).
This is a combination that will not be performed in this show.

Based on the idea that it is important for young performers to first perform with world-class veteran performers in order to learn how to create skilled music, Ravel and Brahms will be performed in combination with senior members. At the same time, in this session, the two young performers received coaching on Ravel, with the aim of acquiring the repertoire that can be performed by the two DUO artists in the future.

Ravel's lesson

After the coaching session, we received a message from Professor Ueda Haruko.

I think the new initiative this time, which involves playing songs with a partner that you won't be playing at the concert, is a very good idea.
This is because, when studying a piece of music, if you only play it with one partner, the piece may remain confined to the world of just the two of you; however, by comparing it with the worlds of various partners, the true nature of the piece can become clearer.
It is often only after tasting a variety of things that one finally understands what one's ideal is.
This may be a step towards a more open and inclusive world. Haruko Ueda

The program for the main performance on November 11th will feature sonatas by Ravel, Brahms, and Saint-Saëns.
